The Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs met at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, Robert Oliphant, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Guy André, Scott Andrews, Greg Kerr, Ben Lobb, Colin Mayes, Robert Oliphant, Hon. Judy Sgro, Peter Stoffer, Brian Storseth and David Sweet.

 

Acting Members present: Gérard Asselin for Roger Gaudet, Devinder Shory for Phil McColeman and Mike Wallace for David Sweet.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: James Cox, Analyst; Michel Rossignol, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Army, Navy and Airforce Veterans in Canada: Lorne McCartney, Dominion Secretary-Treasurer. Canadian Association of Veterans in United Nations Peacekeeping: Ronald Griffis, National President. Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists: Elizabeth Taylor, President; Claudia von Zweck, Executive Director.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its review of the New Veterans Charter.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:00 a.m., David Sweet took the Chair.

 

At 10:50 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:53 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Guy André moved, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee study the problem of suicide among former members of the Canadian Forces, and report its observations and recommendations to the House.

Debate arose thereon.

 

Greg Kerr moved, — That the motion be amended by adding the following:

“within its study on the New Veterans Charter Review”.

Debate arose thereon.

 

At 11:02 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
