The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 11:01 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Bruce Stanton, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Larry Bagnell, Hon. Mauril Bélanger, Rob Clarke, Earl Dreeshen, John Duncan, Marc Lemay, Yvon Lévesque, LaVar Payne, Greg Rickford, Todd Norman Russell and Bruce Stanton.

 

Acting Members present: Dennis Bevington for Jean Crowder.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: James Gauthier, Analyst; Mary Hurley, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Human Resources and Skills Development: Paul Thompson, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, Skills and Employment Branch. Department of Finance: Elisha Ram, Director, Microeconomic Policy Analysis, Economic Development and Corporate Finance; Chris Forbes, General Director, Federal-Provincial Relations and Social Policy Branch; Sean Keenan, Senior Chief, Personal Income Tax Division, Tax Policy Branch.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of Northern Territories Economic Development: Barriers and Solutions.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:47 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

 

At 12:49 p.m., the Committee resumed sitting in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That witnesses during the territorial hearings for the study on Northern economic development be given five minutes for their opening statement.

 

It was agreed, — That the staff of the Committee prepare a news release regarding the Committee’s upcoming hearings in the territories on Northern economic developement.

 

At 1:10 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
