The Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates met at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 213, Wellington Building, the Chair, Hon. Diane Marleau, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, Charlie Angus, Diane Bourgeois, Patrick Brown, Meili Faille, Mark Holland, Diane Marleau, James Moore, Mario Silva and Chris Warkentin.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Larry Bagnell for Raymonde Folco and Barry Devolin for Daryl Kramp.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Philippe Le Goff, Analyst; Mathieu Stanton, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Public Works and Government Services: Tim McGrath, Assistant Deputy Minister, Real Property Branch; Ellen Stensholt, Senior General Counsel, Legal Services Branch.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, February 12, 2008, the Committee resumed its study of Political Interference by the Prime Minister’s Office.
 

Tim McGrath made a statement and, with Ellen Stensholt, answered questions.

 

At 10:06 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:12 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Mark Holland moved, — That, this Committee undertake a study of the federal government's procurement processes, including, but not limited to studying fairness and transparency in the awarding of government contract, and the ability of SMEs to navigate the procurement process; and

That this Committee hold a minimum of three meetings to hear from the appropriate government officials as well as contractors, whose specific cases may illuminate current problems in the federal government's procurement process.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 11; NAYS: 0.

 

At 10:28 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
