The Standing Committee on Health met at 11:11 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Joy Smith, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Patricia Davidson, Steven John Fletcher, Luc Malo, Joy Smith, Lui Temelkovski, David Tilson and Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

 

Acting Members present: Sukh Dhaliwal for Susan Kadis, Wajid Khan for Patrick Brown, Serge Ménard for Christiane Gagnon and Mario Silva for Hon. Robert Thibault.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Odette Madore, Analyst; Sonya Norris, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Health: Karen Dodds, Assistant Deputy Minister, Health Policy Branch; Ian Potter, Assistant Deputy Minister, First Nations and Inuit Health Branch; Kathryn McDade, Director General, Health Care Policy Directorate, Health Policy Branch. Public Health Agency of Canada: Jane Billings, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Planning and Public Health Integration Branch; Arlene King, Director General, Centre for Immunization and Respiratory Infectious Diseases. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and section 25.9 of the Federal-Provincial Fiscal Arrangements Act, the Committee commenced the statutory review of the progress in implementing the "10-Year Plan to Strengthen Health Care".
 

Karen Dodds made a statement and, with Ian Potter, Yves Giroux, Krista Campbell, Jane Billings and Arlene King, answered questions.

 

Carolyn Bennett moved, — That the officials prepare a formal report addressing the progress on each of the 10 aspects of the 2004 Health Accord including: a breakdown of wait times funding; a breakdown of the progression in wait times in each province and territory in all five priority areas identified in the 2004 Accord; and a report on the progress of Conservative pilot projects on wait times announced in 2006; and that this information be provided to the Clerk by May 1, 2008.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 7; NAYS: 0.

 

At 1:02 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
