The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met in a televised session at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Geoff Regan, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Bernard Bigras, Nathan Cullen, Hon. John Godfrey, Luc Harvey, Marcel Lussier, David J. McGuinty, Hon. Geoff Regan, Francis Scarpaleggia, Maurice Vellacott, Mark Warawa and Jeff Watson.

 

Acting Members present: David Anderson for Bob Mills and Hon. Joe Comuzzi for Bob Mills.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sam Banks, Analyst; Tim Williams, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. John Baird, Minister of the Environment.

 

Witnesses: Department of the Environment: David McGovern, Assistant Deputy Minister, International Affairs Branch; Ian Shugart, Associate Deputy Minister.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on November 20, 2007, the Committee resumed its study of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference (Bali, December 2007).
 

The Minister made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

Mark Warawa moved, — That the Committee thank the Minister for setting out Canada's position in Indonesia for the Upcoming UN Conference on Climate Change and offer best wishes on a successful conclusion to the Conference.

Debate arose thereon.

 

At 6:07 p.m., the Chair declared the Committee adjourned for lack of quorum.
