The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 1:08 p.m. this day, in the Council Chambers, Waterloo City Centre, Kitchener, Ontario, the Vice-Chair, Andrew Telegdi, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Robert Carrier, Norman Doyle, Nina Grewal, Hon. Jim Karygiannis, Ed Komarnicki, Thierry St-Cyr and Hon. Andrew Telegdi.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sandra Elgersma, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As individuals: Sean Strickland, Waterloo Wellington Dufferin Grey Building and Construction Trades Council; Alex Lolua, Director, Government Relations; Janet McLaughlin, Department of Anthropology, University of Toronto. Provincial Building and Construction Trades Council of Ontario: Patrick J. Dillon, Business Manager and Secretary-Treasurer. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, November 22, 2007, the Committee resumed its study of undocumented and temporary foreign workers.
 

Patrick Dillon, Janet McLaughlin and Sean Strickland made statements and, with Alex Lolua, answered questions.

 

At 2:12 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 2:17 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Ronald Cadotte, Sue Wilson, Marie Carter, Gerry VanKoeverden and Lek VanKoeverden made statements and answered questions.

 

At 3:06 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:11 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Susan Williams, Paula Gonçalves and Ken Sy made statements and answered questions.

 

At 3:35 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:40 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Tim Lambrinos made a statement and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

By unanimous consent, on motion of Jim Karygiannis, it was agreed, — That the Committee vote its thanks to the City of Waterloo for the use of their Council Chambers.

 

At 3:55 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
