The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met in camera at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, James Bezan, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Alex Atamanenko, André Bellavance, Ken Boshcoff, Hon. Wayne Easter, Guy Lauzon, Larry Miller, Hon. Carol Skelton, Lloyd St. Amand, Paul Steckle, Brian Storseth and Ève-Mary Thaï Thi Lac.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Principal; Mathieu Frigon, Analyst.

 

At 9:05 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:06 a.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 

Guy Lauzon gave notice of the following motion: That the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food urges the Government of Canada to ensure Canadian farmers are not saddled with a carbon tax which would further increase their input costs and hurt their competitiveness vis-à-vis their American competitors.

 

At 9:07 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:08 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on High Input Costs Facing Canadian Farmers.
 

It was agreed, — That the report be entitled: Study on High Input Costs Facing Canadian Farmers.

 

It was agreed, — That the draft report, as amended, be adopted and that the chair present it to the House.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government table a comprehensive response to the report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair, Clerk and analyst be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

 

At 9:53 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:54 a.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 

It was agreed, — That a follow-up be done with the CEO of the Canadian Wheat Board (C.W.B.) Mr. Ian White, President, on the survey results as promised by him, before the Committee, on May 13, 2008.

 

At 9:56 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
