Royal Assent

The Speaker informed the House that Her Excellency the Governor General will proceed to the Senate today at 5:15 p.m., for the purpose of giving the Royal Assent to certain Bills.

Messages from the Senate

A message was received from the Senate as follows:

— ORDERED: That a message be sent to the House of Commons to acquaint that House that the Senate has passed Bill C-34, An Act to provide for jurisdiction over education on First Nation lands in British Columbia, without amendment.

By unanimous consent, it was ordered, — That, in relation to its study on the democratic development, 12 members of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development be authorized to travel to Washington, D.C. and New York City from February 4 to 8, 2007, and that the necessary staff do accompany the Committee.

Royal Assent

A Message was received from Her Excellency the Governor General desiring the immediate attendance of the Commons in the Senate.

Accordingly, the Speaker, with the Commons proceeded to the Senate.

The Commons returned to the Chamber.

Whereupon, the Speaker reported that when the Commons had been in the Senate, Her Excellency the Governor General was pleased to give, in Her Majesty's name, the Royal Assent to the following Bills:

Private Members' Business

Mr. Casey (Cumberland—Colchester—Musquodoboit Valley), seconded by Mr. Mills (Red Deer), moved, — That, in the opinion of the House, the Minister of Health should continue to work collaboratively with Statistics Canada, the provincial and territorial cancer registries, and key stakeholders towards the ultimate goal of creating uniform national standards and guidelines for the surveillance of all malignant and benign brain tumours, including data collection, analysis and reporting. (Private Members' Business M-235)

Pursuant to Standing Order 93(1), the Order was dropped to the bottom of the order of precedence on the Order Paper.

Pursuant to Standing Order 113(2), the Speaker appointed Mr. Hawn (Edmonton Centre), from the Panel of Chairs, Chair of the Legislative Committee on Bill C-30, An Act to amend the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999, the Energy Efficiency Act and the Motor Vehicle Fuel Consumption Standards Act (Canada's Clean Air Act).


Pursuant to Standing Order 112, the name of Mr. Jaffer (Edmonton—Strathcona) was removed from the list of Members of the Panel of Chairs.
