Presenting Reports from Committees

Mr. Benoit (Vegreville—Wainwright), from the Standing Committee on International Trade, presented the Eighth Report of the Committee, “Ten Steps to a Better Trade Policy”. — Sessional Paper No. 8510-391-227.

Pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee requested that the government table a comprehensive response.

A copy of the relevant Minutes of Proceedings (Meetings Nos. 30, 31, 37 to 39 and 42 to 57) was tabled.


Introduction of Private Members' Bills

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. Julian (Burnaby—New Westminster), seconded by Ms. Charlton (Hamilton Mountain), Bill C-437, An Act to develop and implement a National Sustainable Development Strategy, create a Green Fund to assist in its implementation and adopt specific goals with respect to sustainable development in Canada, and to make consequential amendments to another Act, was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.


Presenting Petitions

Pursuant to Standing Order 36, petitions certified correct by the Clerk of Petitions were presented as follows:

Business of Supply

The Order was read for the consideration of the Business of Supply.

Mr. Merasty (Desnethé—Missinippi—Churchill River), seconded by Mr. Ignatieff (Etobicoke—Lakeshore), moved, — That this House apologize to the survivors of Indian Residential Schools for the trauma they suffered as a result of policies intended to assimilate First Nations, Inuit and Métis children, causing the loss of aboriginal culture, heritage and language, while also leaving a sad legacy of emotional, physical and sexual abuse.

Debate arose thereon.
