The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Garry Breitkreuz, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Garry Breitkreuz, Gord Brown, Hon. Raymond Chan, Joe Comartin, Hon. Irwin Cotler, Carole Freeman, Laurie Hawn, Susan Kadis, Dave MacKenzie, Serge Ménard and Rick Norlock.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Maria Minna for Hon. Irwin Cotler and Hon. Judy Sgro for Tina Keeper.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, Principal.

 

Appearing: Hon. Stockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety.

 

Witnesses: Correctional Service Canada: Keith Coulter, Commissioner. National Parole Board: Mario Dion, Chairperson. Department of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness: Suzanne Hurtubise, Deputy Minister. Canada Border Services Agency: Alain Jolicoeur, President. Canadian Security Intelligence Service: Jim Judd, Director. Royal Canadian Mounted Police: Giuliano Zaccardelli, Commissioner.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2006-2007: Vote 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75 and 80 under PUBLIC SAFETY AND EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS referred to the Committee on Tuesday, April 25, 2006.
 

Minister Day made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the first meeting of the Subcommittee on the Review of the Anti-terrorism Act be held Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at 9:00 a.m..

 

At 5:28 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
