The Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates met at 9:00 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Diane Marleau, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, Omar Alghabra, Raymond Bonin, Daryl Kramp, Hon. Diane Marleau, Peggy Nash, Caroline St-Hilaire, Louise Thibault, Mike Wallace and Chris Warkentin.

 

Acting Members present: Cheryl Gallant for James Moore and Marcel Proulx for Hon. Joseph Volpe.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Philippe Le Goff, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Union of Postal Workers: Geoff Bickerton, Director of Research; Deborah Bourque, National President.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study of the future of the Canada Post Corporation.
 

Deborah Bourque made a statement and, with the other witness, answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Omar Alghabra moved, — That the Committee report to the House that it recommends that the acquisition, by purchase or lease, of any significant property, such as the former JDS Uniphase campus in Ottawa by the Government of Canada for use by its departments and agencies, be the result of a competitive public call for tenders process.

 

On motion of Louise Thibault, it was agreed, — That the motion be amended in French only by replacing the word “considérables” with the words “immobiliers d'importance”.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion, as amended, and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 6; NAYS: 5.

 

At 10:54 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
