The Standing Committee on Official Languages met at 9:04 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Guy Lauzon, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Vivian Barbot, Sylvie Boucher, Paule Brunelle, Luc Harvey, Guy Lauzon, Pierre Lemieux, Brian Murphy, Pablo Rodriguez and Hon. Raymond Simard.

 

Acting Members present: Steven Blaney for Daniel Petit and Peter Julian for Yvon Godin.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Rodrigue Paré, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Alliance des radios communautaires du Canada: Béatrice Lajoie, Chargee for National Development; Roger Ouellette, President; Serge Paquin, Secretary General.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(f), the Committee commenced its study of Support for Francophone Minority Media.
 

Roger Ouellette made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 10:25 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:30 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Vivian Barbot moved, — That the Standing Committee on Official Languages gives an official apology to His Excellency Mr. Abdou Diouf, about the treatment which he received upon his arrival in Canada and that the Committee report to the House recommending that the Government does the same.

Debate arose thereon.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 6; NAYS: 4.

 

At 10:46 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
