The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 11:11 a.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Vice-Chair, Raynald Blais, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Gérard Asselin, Raynald Blais, Blaine Calkins, Rodger Cuzner, Randy Kamp, James Lunney, Hon. Lawrence MacAulay, Fabian Manning, Bill Matthews, Scott Simms and Peter Stoffer.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: François Côté, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Acadian Peninsula Traditional Crab Fishermen's Coalition Committee: Serge Savoie, Chair; Fernand Vienneau, member; Aldo Noël, member, Captain, Traditional Crab Boat. Department of Fisheries and Oceans: Larry Murray, Deputy Minister; George Da Pont, Commissioner, Canadian Coast Guard; David Bevan, Assistant Deputy Minister, Fisheries and Aquaculture Management; Wendy Watson-Wright, Assistant Deputy Minister, Science Sector; Sue Kirby, Assistant Deputy Minister, Oceans and Habitat Sector; Michaela Huard, Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy; Alain Corriveau, Acting Director General, Finance and Administration.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study on the Area 12 Crab Fishery.
 

Serge Savoie made a statement and, with Fernand Vienneau and Aldo Noël, answered questions.

 

At 11:57 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:02 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2007-2008 : Votes 1, 5 and 10 under FISHERIES AND OCEANS referred to the Committee on February 27, 2007.
 

Larry Murray made a statement and, with George Da Pont, David Bevan, Wendy Watson-Wright and Alain Corriveau, answered questions.

 

At 1:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
