The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 9:03 a.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Gerald Keddy, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Raynald Blais, Hon. Gerry Byrne, John Cummins, Rodger Cuzner, Randy Kamp, Gerald Keddy, James Lunney, Hon. Lawrence MacAulay, Fabian Manning, Bill Matthews, Jean-Yves Roy and Peter Stoffer.

 

Other Members present: Tom Wappel.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: François Côté, Analyst; Alan Nixon, Principal.

 

Witnesses: Department of Fisheries and Oceans: Robert Bergeron, Director General, Small Craft Harbours; Bill Goulding, Regional Director , Small Craft Harbours, Newfoundland and Labrador Region; Cal Hegge, A/Assistant Deputy Minister, Human Resources and Corporate Services. Grey Seal Research and Development Society: Denny Morrow, Secretary Treasurer.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion agreed to by the Committee on May 16, 2006, the Committee commenced its study of small craft harbours.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

Lawrence MacAulay moved, — That the Committee report to the House recommending that the government consider the advisability of raising the current budget of $86.6 M contained in the 2006-2007 budget by $15 M for the fiscal year 2007-2008.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion agreed to by the Committee on May 16, 2006, the Committee commenced its study of grey seals.
 

The witness made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 11:12 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
