The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 11:19 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, Massimo Pacetti, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Dean Del Mastro, Rick Dykstra, Hon. John McCallum, Hon. John McKay, Massimo Pacetti, Pierre A. Paquette, Thierry St-Cyr and Hon. Robert Thibault.

Acting Members present: Catherine Bell for Judy Wasylycia-Leis, Larry Miller for Brian Pallister and Rick Norlock for Mike Wallace.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Alexandre Laurin, Analyst.

Witnesses: Department of Finance: Serge Dupont, Assistant Deputy Minister, Financial Sector Policy Branch; Colleen Barnes, Senior Chief, Strategic Planning and Trade, Financial Institutions Division; Pascale Dugré-Sasseville, Senior Project Leader, Financial Institutions Division, Strategic Planning and Trade, Financial Sector Policy Branch; Eleanor Ryan, Chief, Structural Issues, Financial Institutes Division, Financial Sector Policy Branch. Canadian Bankers Association: Terry Campbell, Vice-President, Policy; Karen Michell, Vice-President, Banking Operations; Linda Routledge, Director, Consumer Affairs.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Thursday, December 7, 2006, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-37, An Act to amend the law governing financial institutions and to provide for related and consequential matters.

It was agreed, — That the budget of $9,200.00 for the Committee's study on Bill C-37, be approved.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 12:33 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
