The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Kevin Sorenson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Diane Bourgeois, Peter Goldring, Francine Lalonde, Hon. Keith Martin, Alexa McDonough, Deepak Obhrai, Bernard Patry, Kevin Sorenson, Peter Van Loan and Hon. Bryon Wilfert.

 

Acting Members present: Jacques Gourde for Bill Casey.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: James Lee, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Royal Canadian Mounted Police: David Beer, Director General, International Policing. Canadian International Development Agency: Suzanne Laporte, Vice-president, Americas Branch; Yves Pétillon, Program Director, Haiti, Cuba and Dominican Republic Americas Branch. Wilfrid Laurier University: Yasmine Shamsie, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science. Centre for International Governance Innovation (GIGI): Andrew Thompson, Research Associate.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on May 10, 2006, the Committee resumed a study of Canada's role in complex international interventions that involve multiple foreign policy instruments focusing on Canada's efforts in Haiti.
 

Yasmine Shamsie and Andrew Thompson made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:40 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:44 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Suzanne Laporte and David Beer made statements and answered questions.

 

At 6:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
