The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met in camera at 9:08 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Kevin Sorenson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Vivian Barbot, Bill Casey, Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh, Hon. Mark Eyking, Peter Goldring, Wajid Khan, Francine Lalonde, Alexa McDonough, Kevin Sorenson and Hon. Bryon Wilfert.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Raymond Simard for Bernard Patry.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: James Lee, Analyst; Gerald Schmitz, Principal.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on May 10, 2006, the Committee resumed its study on Democratic Development.
 

The Committee commenced consideration of a draft report.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development invite the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of National Defence and other relevant officials to appear before the Committee to present and explain the new Afghan detainee transfer agreement announced by the Minister of Defence in his appearance before this committee, on April 25, 2007, and to explain his role, if any, in altering the report entitled Afghanistan 2006: Good Governance, Democratic Development and Human Rights.

 

It was agreed, — To invite the High Commissioner of Pakistan to speak to the Committee on Thursday May 10, 2007, concerning Afghanistan and to invite the Ambassador of Afghanistan at a future date.

 

At 11:01 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
