The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met by teleconference at 11:01 a.m. this day, in Room 209 West Block, the Chair, Bob Mills, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Mike Allen, Bernard Bigras, Nathan Cullen, Luc Harvey, Marcel Lussier, David J. McGuinty, Bob Mills, Hon. Geoff Regan, Anthony Rota, Francis Scarpaleggia, Maurice Vellacott and Mark Warawa.

Associate Members present: Hon. John Godfrey.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sam Banks, Analyst ; Tim Williams, Analyst.

Witnesses: EnCana Corporation: Dave Hassan, Former Vice-President, Weyburn Operations. As individuals: David Keith, Professor, University of Calgary; Malcolm Wilson, Professor, University of Regina. Climate Change Central: Simon Knight, Chief Executive Officer. NOVA Chemicals Corporation: Mark Lesky, Director, Environment; Grant Thomson, Senior Vice-President, Olefins and Feedstocks. Department of Natural Resources: Carolyn Preston, Project Integrator, CANMET Energy Technology Centre, Devon, Alberta; Bill Reynen, Director, Science and Technology, Clean Electric Power Generation. Department of the Environment: Mark Tushingham, Senior Engineering Advisor.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study of Carbon Sequestration.

Simon Knight, Grant Thomson, Dave Hassan, David Keith, Malcolm Wilson, Mark Tushingham and Carolyn Preston made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 1:02 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
