The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met in a televised session at 9:03 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Bob Mills, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Bernard Bigras, Blaine Calkins, Nathan Cullen, Hon. John Godfrey, Luc Harvey, Marcel Lussier, Bob Mills, Francis Scarpaleggia, Maurice Vellacott and Mark Warawa.

 

Acting Members present: Scott Simms for Mario Silva.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sam Banks, Analyst; Tim Williams, Analyst. House of Commons: Justin Vaive, Committee Clerk.

 

Witnesses: Formulated Products Industry Coalition: Shannon Coombs. Canadian Chemical Producers' Association: Gordon Lloyd, Vice-President, Technical Affairs. Canadian Institute for Environmental Law and Policy: Maureen Carter-Whitney, Research Director; Anne Mitchell, Executive Director. As individuals: Joe Schwarcz, McGill University; Gail Krantzberg, McMaster University. PollutionWatch: Aaron Freeman, Environmental Defence Canada; Kapil Khatter, Director, Health and Environment. Salt Institute of Canada: Michael Teeter, Consultant. Save the Oak Ridges Moraine Coalition: Anna Tilman.

 

Participants present: Department of the Environment: John Moffet, Acting Director General. Department of Health: Steve Clarkson, Director, Bureau of Risk and Impact Assessment.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and section 343 of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999, the Committee resumed the statutory review of the Act - Final Roundtable.
 

Shannon Coombs, Gordon Lloyd, Maureen Carter-Whitney, Anne Mitchell, Joe Schwarcz, Gail Krantzberg, Aaron Freeman, Kapil Khatter, Michael Teeter and Anna Tilman made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 11:04 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
