The Standing Committee on International Trade met in a televised session at 10:07 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Leon Benoit, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Guy André, Leon Benoit, Hon. Mark Eyking, Helena Guergis, Peter Julian, Hon. Dominic LeBlanc, John Maloney and Lui Temelkovski.

 

Acting Members present: Bill Casey for Ted Menzies, Paul Crête for Pierre A. Paquette, Hon. Jay Hill for Pierre Lemieux and Christian Paradis for Ron Cannan.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michael Holden, Analyst. Standing Committee on International Trade: Alexandre Roger, Co-Clerk of the Committee.

 

Appearing: Hon. David Emerson, Minister of International Trade.

 

Witnesses: Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (International Trade): Andrea Lyon, Director General, North America Trade Policy Bureau; Kris Panday, Director, Softwood Lumber Division.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study of Softwood Lumber - Agreement of July 1st, 2006.
 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Helena Guergis, it was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on International Trade, noting that Mr. Frank McKenna, who as former Ambassador to the United States was closely involved in the development of the previous government’s softwood lumber negotiations, has declined the Committee’s invitation to appear as a witness, requests that he appear at the next scheduled meeting on August 21st.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of Softwood Lumber.
 

The Minister made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 12:02 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
