The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in a televised session at 3:40 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Gary Schellenberger, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Jim Abbott, Charlie Angus, Hon. Mauril Bélanger, Ed Fast, Tina Keeper, Maka Kotto, Luc Malo, Francis Scarpaleggia, Gary Schellenberger, Scott Simms and Chris Warkentin.

 

Acting Members present: Ken Epp for Sylvie Boucher.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Marion Ménard, Analyst; Matthew Carnaghan, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Fédération des communautés francophones et acadienne du Canada: Marielle Beaulieu, Executive Director; Diane Côté, Director, Community and Government Liaison. Commission nationale des parents francophones: Ghislaine Pilon, President; Murielle Gagné-Ouellette, Director General. National Anti-Poverty Organization: Debbie Frost, President; Rob Rainer, Executive Director. Canadian Association of the Deaf: Scott Simser, Barrister & Solicitor, Simser Consulting. Roxanne Whiting, ASL-Interpreter.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study of Court Challenges Program.
 

The Chair made a statement with respect to the Sub judice Convention.

 

Marielle Beaulieu made a statement and, with Diane Côté, answered questions.

 

Murielle Gagné-Ouellette made a statement and, with Ghislaine Pilon, answered questions.

 

At 4:33 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:38 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Debbie Frost made a statement and, with Rob Rainer, answered questions.

 

Scott Simser made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 5:27 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
