The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 11:08 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Colin Mayes, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, Hon. Larry Bagnell, Steven Blaney, Rod Bruinooge, Jean Crowder, Yvon Lévesque, Colin Mayes, Hon. Anita Neville, Todd Norman Russell and Brian Storseth.

 

Acting Members present: Tina Keeper for Nancy Karetak-Lindell and Yves Lessard for Marc Lemay.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mary Hurley, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Manitoba Keewatinook Ininew Okimowin: Michael Anderson, Research Director, Natural Resources Secretariat; Sydney Garrioch. Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs: Viola Eastman, Canupawakpa Dakota Nation; Irene Linklater, Director, Research and Policy Development. Manitoba Southern Chiefs' Organization: Chris Henderson. Atlantic Policy Congress of First Nation Chiefs Secretariat Inc.: John G. Paul, Executive Director; Lawrence Paul, Co-Chair, Atlantic Policy Congress.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, February 21, 2007, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-44, An Act to amend the Canadian Human Rights Act.
 

Viola Eastman, Sydney Garrioch, Michael Anderson, Lawrence Paul, John G. Paul and Chris Henderson made opening statements and, with the other witness answered questions.

 

At 1:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
