The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met in camera at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Colin Mayes, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, Steven Blaney, Rod Bruinooge, Jean Crowder, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Marc Lemay, Colin Mayes, Gary Merasty, Hon. Anita Neville and Todd Norman Russell.

 

Acting Members present: Deepak Obhrai for Inky Mark.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mary Hurley, Analyst; Tonina Simeone, Analyst; Marlisa Tiedemann, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee adopt a travel budget request totalling $11,047 to attend the Canadian Aboriginal Law Conference in Ottawa, October 4 and 5, 2006 and that the Chair seek authorization from the House to this effect.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hold a meeting at the Nunavut Sivuniksavut Program School in Ottawa and that the Chair make the necessary financial and logistic arrangements and seek authorization from the House to this effect.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee add Mary Young, Director, Aboriginal Students Services' Centre and representatives of the Prince Albert Grand Council to its list of approved witnesses.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hear from the representatives of the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue, the Cree School Board, the Association des Premières Nations du Québec et du Labrador and its Board of Education on October 17 or the next possible date and that the Committee end its hearings on post-secondary education on October 31.

 

At 10:53 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
