The Standing Committee on Transport met at 9:08 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, for the purpose of electing a Chair, pursuant to Standing Order 106(1).

 

Members of the Committee present: Dave Batters, Don H. Bell, Raymond Bonin, Robert Carrier, Hon. Roger Gallaway, Jim Gouk, Hon. Charles Hubbard, Peter Julian, Francis Scarpaleggia, Andrew Scheer and Caroline St-Hilaire.

 

Acting Members present: Leon Benoit for James Moore.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: John Christopher, Analyst.

 
The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of a Chair.
 

On motion of Jim Gouk, it was agreed, — That Roger Gallaway be elected Chair of the Committee.

 

The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of the Vice-Chairs.

 

On motion of Leon Benoit, it was agreed, — That Jim Gouk be elected first Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

On motion of Raymond Bonin, it was agreed, — That Caroline St-Hilaire be elected second Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

Roger Gallaway took the Chair.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Jim Gouk gave notice of the following motion:

That the Standing Committee on Transport request that the Government instruct Via Rail to cease any plans to expand their operation between Vancouver, B.C. and Jasper, Alberta in competition with the unsubsidized private sector company that built up that route.

 

At 9:15 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
