The Subcommittee on Solicitation Laws of the Standing Committee on Justice, Human Rights, Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness met at 10:07 a.m. this day, in the Nova Scotia meeting room, Casino Nova Scotia Hotel, Halifax, Nova Scotia, the Chair, John Maloney, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Paule Brunelle, Libby Davies and John Maloney.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Laura Barnett, Analyst; Lyne Casavant, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Elizabeth Fry Society of Mainland, Nova Scotia: Laurie Ehler, Administrative Coordinator. Halifax Regional Police: Brian Johnston, Constable; Doug MacKinnon, Constable. Direction 180: Cynthia MacIsaac, Program Director. Stepping Stone: Jeannine McNeil, Executive Director; Rene Ross, Chair; Daniel Roukema, Vice-Chair. Women's Innovative Justice Initiative: Pam Rubin, Research Coordinator. Halifax City Council: Dawn Sloane, Councillor.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Standing Committee on Justice, Human Rights, Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness on November 24, 2004, the Subcommittee resumed its study of Solicitation Laws.
 

Cynthia MacIsaac, Brian Johnston, Doug MacKinnon, Dawn Sloane, Laurie Ehler and Rene Ross made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 12:05 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:15 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Pam Rubin made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 12:34 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
