The Subcommittee on the Status of Persons with Disabilities of the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills Development, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 7:06 p.m. this day, in Room 705 La Promenade Building, the Chair, Ken Boshcoff, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Ken Boshcoff, Ruby Dhalla, Peter Julian, Carol Skelton and Robert Vincent.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Chantal Collin, Analyst; Jean-Rodrigue Paré, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Reg Alcock, President of the Treasury Board.

 

Witnesses: Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat: Wally Boxhill, Director, Employment Equity Division; Blair James, Executive Director, Real Property and Material Policy Directorate; Brian J. Biggar, Manager, Corporate Identity and Communications Policy, Strategic Policy and Communications. Department of Public Works and Government Services: Serge Prud'homme, Acting Director, Parliament Precinct, Real Property Branch.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Subcommittee on Wednesday, February 9, 2005, the Subcommittee resumed its study of issues related to accessibility for persons with disabilities within the Federal Public Service.
 

The Minister made a statement and, with Wally Boxhill, Brian Biggar, Blair James and Serge Prud'homme, answered questions.

 

At 8:16 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 8:18 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee meet with members of the Committee for the Attention of Vulnerable Groups of the Mexican Chamber of Deputies.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair write a letter to the Department of Public Works and Government Services and to the Clerk of the House requesting information regarding the policies on fire drills and emergency plans within the parliamentary precinct and federal buildings.

 

It was agreed, — That the Clerk, in consultation with the Chair, prepare a draft budget respecting the Subcommittee’s proposed travel around the National Capital Region for site visits to Federal Government buildings in relation to the Subcommittee's study on accessibility for persons with disabilities within the Federal Public Service for consideration of the Subcommittee on April 6, 2005.

 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee invite the Ministers or their representatives from the following departments and agencies to appear: Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, Social Development, Transport, Canadian Transportation Agency and the Senate.

 

At 8:54 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
