The Subcommittee on Human Rights and International Development of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 3:41 p.m. this day, in Room 701 La Promenade Building, the Chair, Navdeep Bains, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Navdeep Bains, Hon. Ed Broadbent and Wajid Khan.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Marcus Pistor, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of International Trade: Christine Côté, Acting Director, Investment Trade Policy Division (EBI); Vivien Escott, Deputy Director, Trade Southeast Asia Division. Department of Natural Resources: Lise-Aurore Lapalme, Senior Policy Advisor, Economic, Financial and Social Analysis Branch. Department of International Trade: Vernon MacKay, Senior Trade Policy Analyst, Investment Trade Policy Division (EBI). Department of Natural Resources: Michel Miron, Senior Policy Advisor, Industry Analysis and Business Development Branch; Gary Nash, Assistant Deputy Minister, Minerals and Metals Sector; Louis Perron, Senior Policy Advisor, Programs Branch. Department of International Trade: Carl Pilon, Trade Commissioner; Ken Sunquist, Assistant Deputy Minister, International Business and Chief Trade Commissioner.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Subcommittee on April 20, 2005, the Subcommittee commenced its study of Mining in Developing Countries - Corportate Social Responsibility.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:05 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:13 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

At 5:33 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
