Wednesday, April 6, 2005

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in a televised session at 4:00 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D Centre Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Gary Carr, David Christopherson, Brian Fitzpatrick, Sébastien Gagnon, Mark Holland, Daryl Kramp, Hon. Walt Lastewka, Hon. Shawn Murphy, Benoît Sauvageau, John Williams and Borys Wrzesnewskyj.

Acting Members present: Claude Bachand for Sébastien Gagnon.

Witnesses: Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Sheila Fraser, Auditor General of Canada; Hugh McRoberts, Assistant Auditor General; Shahid Minto, Assistant Auditor General.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

The Chair presented the Eighth Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure which reads as follows:

Your Subcommittee met on Tuesday, April 5, 2005, to consider the business of the Committee and agreed to the following:

That, in relation to witnesses for its meeting of Monday, April 11, 2005, on Chapter 5, Management of Public Opinion Research of the November 2003 Report of the Auditor General of Canada, the Committee:

1. Excuse David Dodge and Don Drummond from appearing as witnesses.

It was agreed, — That the Eighth Report of the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be adopted.

Benoît Sauvageau moved, — That, notwithstanding the motion of March 21, 2005, the following witnesses: the Auditor General, Allan Cutler, Peter Daniel, David Herle, Warren Kinsella and Terrie O'Leary be invited to appear on Wednesday, April 13, 2005, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in Room 237-C, Centre Block in relation to Chapter 5, Management of Public Opinion Research of the November 2003 Report of the Auditor General of Canada referred to the Committee on February 10, 2004.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 6; NAYS: 5.

Borys Wrzesnewskyj moved, — That the Committee do now adjourn.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 6; NAYS: 1.

At 4:37 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
