The Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates met in camera at 3:38 p.m. this day, in Room 308 West Block, the Chair, Leon Benoit, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Leon Benoit, Ken Boshcoff, Marc Godbout, Guy Lauzon, Diane Marleau, Pat Martin, Joe Preston, Francis Scarpaleggia, Paul Szabo and Louise Thibault.

 

Acting Members present: Pierre Poilievre for Randy White, Benoît Sauvageau for Marcel Gagnon and Andrew Scheer for Joe Preston.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Tara Gray, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 5:12 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:13 p.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 

Joe Preston moved, — That the committee request Senator Paul Massicotte, President and Chief Executive Officer of Alexis Nihon REIT, which has leased to the Federal Government a building located at 550 de la Cité Blvd, in the City of Gatineau, to appear before the Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates to answer questions about this agreement.

Debate arose thereon.

 

Louise Thibault moved, — That the motion be amended by replacing the words “request Senator Paul Massicotte, President and Chief Executive Officer of Alexis Nihon REIT which has leased to the Federal Government a” with the words “invite the Minister of Public Works and Government Services to appear to discuss the leasing agreement of the” and that the words “and that subsequently the Committee invite Senator Paul Massicotte, President and Chief Executive Officer of Alexis Nihon REIT be inserted following the words “the City of Gatineau“.

 

Marc Godbout moved, — That the amendment be amended by replacing the word “subsequently” with the word “if necessary”.

 

The question was put on the subamendment of Marc Godbout and it was negatived, by a show of hands: YEAS: 4; NAYS: 6.

 

The question was put on the amendment of Louise Thibault and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 6; NAYS: 5.

 

The motion, as amended, read as follows:

That the Committee invite the Minister of Public Works and Government Services to appear to discuss the leasing agreement of the Federal Government building located at 550 de la Cité Blvd, in the City of Gatineau, and that subsequently the committee invite Senator Paul Massicotte, President and Chief Executive Officer of Alexis Nihon REIT to appear before the Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates to answer questions about this agreement.

 

The question was put on the motion, as amended, and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 6; NAYS: 3.

 

At 5:36 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
