The Standing Committee on Official Languages met in camera at 9:06 this day, in Room 371 West Block, the Chair, Pablo Rodriguez, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Guy André, Françoise Boivin, Jean-Claude D'Amours, Odina Desrochers, Marc Godbout, Yvon Godin, Pierre Poilievre, Pablo Rodriguez and Raymond Simard.

 

Acting Members present: Dave Batters for Andrew Scheer and Colin Carrie for Guy Lauzon.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Marion Ménard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Public Service Commission of Canada: Maria Barrados, President; Jacques M. Pelletier, Vice-President, Recruitment & Assessment Services; Carolyn Waddell, Director, Policy Development.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(f), the Committee commenced consideration of the study on Career development and test services in relation with the official languages.
 
Maria Barrados made a statement and along with the other witnesses answered questions.
 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 10:24 , the sitting was suspended.

At 10:29, the sitting resumed in camera to examine the Committee's futur businesses.

 

It was agreed, — That the President of Treasury Board or a Deputy Minister responsible of the official languages be invited to appear before the Committee on December 9 or as soon as possible before the Christmas adjournment.

 

It was agreed, — That the Minister of National Defence be invited to appear before the Committee in February 2005.

 

It is agreed, — That l'Association des universités de la francophonie canadienne, the Réseau des CEGEPS et collèges francophones du Canada, and the Fédération nationale des conseils scolaires francophones be invited to appear before the Committee before the Christmas ajournment.

 

It was agreed, — That the Clerk of the Committee inquire about the members' suggestions with regard to the preparation of a trip.

 

At 11:10 , the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
