The Standing Committee on Official Languages met in camera at 9:07 a.m. this day, in Room 371 West Block, the Chair, Pablo Rodriguez, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Guy André, Stéphane Bergeron, Françoise Boivin, Jean-Claude D'Amours, Marc Godbout, Yvon Godin, Guy Lauzon, Pierre Poilievre, Pablo Rodriguez, Andrew Scheer, Hon. Raymond Simard and Maurice Vellacott.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Marion Ménard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Human Resources and Skills Development: Lenore Burton, Director General, Learning and Literacy Directorate; Michelle Hamelin, Director, Official Language Minority Communities Secretariat; Michael J. Saucier, Director General, Labour Market and Official Language Minority Communities.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(f), the Committee resumed consideration of the study on a Government Report entitled: The next Act: New momentum for Canada's linguistic duality - The Action Plan for Official Languages.
 

Michael J. Saucier made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 10:31 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

 

At 10:38 a.m., the Committee resumed sitting in camera.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Official Languages rescind the motion adopted on Tuesday, April 19, 2005 and begin right away the study of Bill S-3, An Act to amend the Official Languages Act (promotion of English and French) making it the first priority of the committee’s business..

 

At 10:59 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
