The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills Development, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 11:07 a.m. this day, in Room 209 West Block, the Chair, Raymonde Folco, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Eleni Bakopanos, Jean-Claude D'Amours, Barry Devolin, Raymonde Folco, Paul Forseth, Christiane Gagnon, Ed Komarnicki, Yves Lessard, Tony Martin, Mario Silva and Peter Van Loan.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Kevin Kerr, Analyst; Chantal Collin, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Joseph Volpe, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development.

 

Witnesses: Department of Human Resources and Skills Development: Andrew Treusch, Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic Policy and Planning; Barbara Glover, Director General, Corporate Planning and Accountability; Michelle René de Cotret, Senior Counsel.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of November 23, 2004, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-23, An Act to establish the Department of Human Resources and Skills Development and to amend and repeal certain related Acts.
 

The Minister made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

It was agreed, — That December 2nd the Subcommittee on the Employment Insurance Funds met in lieu of the main Committee.

 

It was agreed, — That December 7th, if Bill C-22, An Act to establish the Department of Social Developement and to amend and repeal certain related Acts is referred to the Committee, Minister Dryden and his officials be invited to appear.

 

It was agreed, — That December 9th, the Committee hear all other witnesses on C-23 and possibly C-22 if it has then been referred to the Committee.

 

At 12:48 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
