The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in camera at 11:06 a.m. this day, in Room 536 Wellington Building, the Chair, Tom Wappel, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Raynald Blais, John Cummins, Rodger Cuzner, Randy Kamp, Bill Matthews, Shawn Murphy, Jean-Yves Roy, Scott Simms, Peter Stoffer and Tom Wappel.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: François Côté, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That Larry Murray and David Bevan from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans be invited to appear before the Committee on Thursday, June 9, 2005 in relation to the 2004 Fraser River sockeye salmon harvest.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of Aquatic Invasive Species.
 

The Committee commenced consideration of a draft report.

 

It was agreed, — That the draft report be adopted subject to final editing.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair present the report to the House once the members of the Committee have seen the the final version.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government table a comprehensive response to the report.

 
The Committee resumed consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee's first two meetings in September 2005 be devoted to consideration of the 2005 Fraser River sockeye salmon harvest.

 

It was agreed, — That Louise Knox of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency and officials from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans be tentatively invited to appear before the Committee on Tuesday, June 14, 2005 in relation to the Rouge River Watershed.

 

It was agreed, — That representatives of Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. and the Nunavut Wildlife Management Board be tentatively invited to appear before the Committee on Thursday, June 16, 2005 in relation to the turbot quota of the Baffin Fisheries Coalition in the Davis Strait.

 

At 12:37 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
