The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 9:09 a.m. this day, in Room 701 La Promenade Building, the Chair, Bernard Patry, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dan McTeague, Ted Menzies, Pierre A. Paquette, Bernard Patry, Beth Phinney and Kevin Sorenson.

 

Acting Members present: John Cannis for Maurizio Bevilacqua, Johanne Deschamps for Francine Lalonde, Bev Desjarlais for Alexa McDonough and Peter Goldring for Stockwell Day.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Gerald Schmitz, Principal; Marcus Pistor, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: The Global Fund To Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria: Richard Feachem, Executive Director; Christoph Benn, Director, External Relations.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday February 1, 2005, the Committee commenced its consideration of issues relating to Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
 

Dr. Richard Feachem made a statement and, with Dr. Christophe Benn, answered questions.

 

The Committee proceeded to discuss business consideration of Bill C-25, An Act governing the operation of remote sensing space systems.

 

Dan McTeague moved, — That the motion in the minutes of the meeting of February 3, 2005 concerning witnesses on Bill C-25 be rescinded.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

 

It was agreed, — That government officials be called back to the Committee for its meeting of February 10 on Bill C-25.

 

At 10:11 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
