The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Lloyd St. Amand, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Sue Barnes, Jeremy Harrison, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Pat Martin, Serge Ménard, Jim Prentice, David Smith, Lloyd St. Amand and Roger Valley.

 

Acting Members present: Gérard Asselin for Bernard Cleary and Ed Komarnicki for Carol Skelton.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mary Hurley, Analyst; Marlisa Tiedemann, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Government of Alberta: Neil Reddekopp, Assistant Deputy Minister, Land and Resources Issues, Department of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Thursday, October 6, 2005, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-54, An Act to provide first nations with the option of managing and regulating oil and gas exploration and exploitation and of receiving moneys otherwise held for them by Canada.
 

Neil Reddekopp made a statement and answered questions.

 

Sue Barnes moved, — That the Indian Resource Council of Canada be invited to appear in relation to Bill C-54 on Tuesday, October 25, 2005.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was negatived.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee have a future business meeting on Tuesday, October 25, after the
clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-54.

 

At 4:55 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
