The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in camera at 3:37 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, Marlene Jennings, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Odina Desrochers, Marlene Jennings, Hon. Joe Jordan, Hon. Walt Lastewka, Hon. Shawn Murphy, Beth Phinney, Alan Tonks and Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

 

Acting Members present: David L. Anderson for Peter Goldring, Rodger Cuzner for Dennis Mills, Jason Kenney for Paul Forseth, Judi Longfield for Hon. Robert Thibault, Paul Harold Macklin for Dominic LeBlanc, Grant McNally for John Williams, Rob Merrifield for Philip Mayfield and Vic Toews for Val Meredith.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Brian O'Neal, Analyst; Jack Stilborn, Analyst. House of Commons: Gregory Tardi, Senior Legal Counsel; Rob Walsh, Law Clerk and Parliamentary Counsel.

 

Other Participants present: KPMG: Greg McEvoy, Senior Manager.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the Committee authorize the public release of the following documents:

1. Working Paper II for the Standing Committee on Public Accounts - Chapters 3 (the Sponsorship Program), 4 (Advertising Activities), and 5 (Management of Public Opinion Research) of the November 2003 Report of the Auditor General of Canada - based on evidence received up to and including 30 April 2004;

2. Summary of Evidence - The Review of Chapter 3 (the Sponsorship Program), Chapter 4 (Advertising Activities) and Chapter 5 (Management of Public Opinion Research) of the November 2003 Report of the Auditor General of Canada for the period ending 19 April 2004 - Communication Agencies;

3. Summary of the Oral Evidence presented to the Standing Committee on Public Accounts - Audits of the Sponsorship Program, Advertising Activities and Management of Public Opinion Research (Chapters 3, 4 and 5 of the November 2003 Report of the Auditor General of Canada) - Crown Corporations and the RCMP.

 

At 4:16 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:44 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the Committee authorize the public release of the following document:

Summary of the oral evidence presented to the Standing Committee on Public Accounts - Audits of the Sponsorship Program, Advertising Activities and Management of Public Opinion Research (Chapters 3, 4 and 5 of the November 2003 Report of the Auditor General of Canada).

 

At 5:32 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
