The Standing Committee on Justice, Human Rights, Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness met at 4:10 p.m. this day, in Room 269 West Block, the Chair, Derek Lee, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Sue Barnes, Garry Breitkreuz, Chuck Cadman, Marlene Catterall, Hon. Yvon Charbonneau, Robert Lanctôt, Derek Lee, Hon. Lawrence MacAulay, Peter MacKay, Hon. Lorne Nystrom, Pauline Picard and Paddy Torsney.

 

Other Members present: Joe Clark.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Robin MacKay, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Anne McLellan, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness.

 

Witnesses: Department of the Solicitor General (Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness): Margaret Bloodworth, Deputy Minister. Canadian Firearms Centre: William V. Baker, Commissioner. Canadian Security Intelligence Service: Ward P. Elcock, Director. Royal Canadian Mounted Police: Gary Loeppky, A/Commissioner.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (B) 2003-2004: Votes 1b, 10b, 15b, 25b, 30b, 35b, 40b, 45b, 50b and 55b under SOLICITOR GENERAL, referred to the Committee on Thursday, February 19, 2004.
 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2004-2005: Votes 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70 and 75 under SOLICITOR GENERAL (Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness), referred to the Committee on Tuesday, February 24, 2004.
 

The Minister made a statement and, with the witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 5:58 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:59 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The Committee discussed its business.

 

At 6:01 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
