MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS
Meeting No. 1
Thursday, November 7, 2002
The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block.
Members of the Committee present: John Bryden, Odina Desrochers, John Finlay, Paul Forseth, Mac Harb, Gerald Keddy, Philip Mayfield, Val Meredith, Gilles-A. Perron, Joe Peschisolido, Beth Phinney, Alex Shepherd and John Williams.
Acting Members present: Geoff Regan for Robert Bertrand; Jacques Saada for Sophia Leung; Derek Lee for Shawn Murphy; Yvon Godin for Pat Martin.
Pursuant to Standing Order 106(1) and (2); Election of a Chair and Vice-Chairs.
The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of the Chair and the Vice-Chairs.
On motion of Mac Harb, it was agreed, - That John Williams do take the Chair of this Committee as Chair.
Mac Harb moved – That Beth Phinney be elected Vice-Chair of the Committee.
Val Meredith moved, - That Shawn Murphy be elected Vice-Chair of the Committee.
Joe Peschisolido moved, - That Mac Harb be elected Vice-Chair of the Committee.
Paul Forseth moved, - That Robert Bertrand be elected Vice-Chair of the Committee.
Pursuant to Standing Order 106(3), the Committee proceeded to a secret ballot for the election of the first government Vice-Chair.
And the ballots having been counted, Beth Phinney was declared elected Vice-Chair of the Committee.
Odina Desrochers moved, - That Shawn Murphy be elected Vice-Chair of the Committee.
John Williams moved, - That Mac Harb be elected Vice-Chair of the Committee.
Val Meredith moved, - That Robert Bertrand be elected Vice-Chair of the Committee.
Pursuant to Standing Order 106(3), the Committee proceeded to a secret ballot for the election of the second government Vice-Chair.
And the ballots having been counted, Mac Harb was declared elected Vice-Chair of the Committee.
John Williams took the Chair.
Mac Harb moved, - That routine motions be dealt with at the next sitting of the Committee.
After debate, the motion was agreed to by a show of hands: YEAS: 9; NAYS 7.
At 9:33 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
