The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 9:09 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Jim Abbott, Paul Bonwick, Sarmite Bulte, Rodger Cuzner, John Harvard, Loyola Hearn, Betty Hinton, Wendy Lill, Clifford Lincoln and Tony Tirabassi.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Sam Banks, Joseph Jackson and Terrence Thomas, research officers. Consultant: David Black.
Witnesses: As Individual: John Meisel, Professor Emeritus, Department of Political Studies, Queen's University; Karim H. Karim, Associate Professor, School of Journalism and Communication, Carleton University; Will Straw, Associate Professor, Department of Art History and Communication Studies, McGill University; Rebecca Sullivan, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Communication and Culture, University of Calgary; Bart Beaty, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Communication and Culture, University of Calgary; Kirk Lapointe, Journalist. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on the State of the Canadian Broadcasting System. (See Minutes of Proceeding dated November 7,2002, meeting no. 2).
The witnesses made statements and answered questions.
At 9:20 a.m., the Sitting was suspended.
At 9:43 a.m., the Sitting resumed.
At 11:15 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
