The Standing Committee on Health met at 9:06 a.m. this day, in Room 371 West Block, the Chair, Bonnie Brown, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Gilbert Barrette, Carolyn Bennett, Bonnie Brown, Jeannot Castonguay, Hedy Fry, Grant Hill, Betty Hinton, Réal Ménard, Rob Merrifield and Svend Robinson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier, Analyst; Sonya Norris, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Rx & D - Canada's Research-Based Pharmaceutical Companies: John Stewart, Chairman and Executive Vice-President and, General Manager of Purdue Pharma; Nestor Nituch, Director of Clinical Research, Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS); Murray J. Elston, President. BIOTECanada: Janet Lambert, President; Suzanne Cadden, Vice President of Clinical and Regulatory Affairs, Lorus Therapeutics. Canadian Generic Pharmaceutical Association: Jim Keon, President; Allan Oberman, Vice-Chair, President and Chief Executive Officer of Novopharm Ltd..

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on February 17, 2003, the Committee resumed its study of Prescription Drugs.
 

John Stewart, Nestor Nituch, Janet Lambert, Suzanne Cadden, Allan Oberman and Jim Keon made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 9:49 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:58 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

At 10:57 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:00 a.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

 

At 11:02 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
