Meeting No. 22

Wednesday, March 19, 2003

The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in a televised session at 6:11 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Tom Wappel, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Andy Burton, Georges Farrah, Loyola Hearn, Jean-Yves Roy, Peter Stoffer, Tom Wappel, Bob Wood.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: François Côté and Alan Nixon, research officers.

Witnesses: From the Department of Environment Canada: Robert McLean, Acting Assistant Deputy Minister, Environmental Conservation Service; George Enei, Director, Conservation, Priority and Planning. From the Department of Fisheries and Oceans: Wendy Watson-Wright, Assistant Deputy Minister, Science Sector; Serge Labonté, Director General, Fisheries, Environment and Biodiversity Directorate; John Cooley, Regional Director, Science, Central and Arctic Region. From the Department of Transport: Marc Grégoire, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, Safety and Security Group; Tom Morris, Manager, Environmental Protection.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on invasive species (See Minutes of Proceedings, Thursday, January 30, 2002, Meeting No. 11).

Wendy Watson-Wright, Robert McLean and Marc Grégoire made statements and, with other witnesses, answered questions.

At 7:49 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
