Meeting No. 17

Wednesday, February 19, 2003

The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 5:36 p.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Tom Wappel, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Andy Burton, John Cummins, R. John Efford, Loyola Hearn, Bill Matthews, Carmen Provenzano, Jean-Yves Roy, Peter Stoffer, Tom Wappel, Bob Wood.

Other Member present:  Paul Steckle.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Alan Nixon and François Côté, research officers.

Witnesses: From the Association of Canada Lands Surveyors: Tim Lawrence, Chairman, Offshore Issues Committee; Jean-Claude Tétreault, Executive Director. From the University of New Brunswick: Susan E. Nichols, Professor, Department of Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering. From the Department of Fisheries and Oceans: David Monahan, Director, Ocean Mapping, Canadian Hydrographic Services.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced a study on offshore property rights (See Minutes of Proceedings, Thursday, January 30, 2003, Meeting No. 11).

Jean-Claude Tétreault, Tim Lawrence and Susan E. Nichols made statements.

At 5:52 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 6:06 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Jean-Claude Tétreault, Tim Lawrence and Susan E. Nichols, with David Monhan, answered questions.

At 7:19 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
