The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D Centre Block, the Chair, Sue Barnes, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Sue Barnes, Scott Brison, Roy Cullen, Nick Discepola, Rahim Jaffer, Shawn Murphy, Pierre Paquette, Pauline Picard, Monte Solberg, Tony Valeri, Judy Wasylycia-Leis and Bryon Wilfert.

 

Acting Members present: Yvon Charbonneau for Nick Discepola, Nancy Karetak-Lindell for Roy Cullen, Walt Lastewka for Gary Pillitteri, Dominic LeBlanc for Maria Minna, Gilbert Normand for Albina Guarnieri and David Pratt for Sophia Leung.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: June Dewetering, Principal; Blayne Haggart, Analyst; Stephen Laurent, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Bank of Canada: David A. Dodge, Governor; Paul Jenkins, Senior Deputy Governor.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to its consideration of the Bank of Canada's Monetary Policy Report.
 

David Dodge made a statement and, with Paul Jenkins, answered questions.

 

At 4:03 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:29 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Monte Solberg asked a question on the problems at the Virginia Fontaine Centre when David Dodge was Deputy Minister in the Department of Health.

The Chair ruled the question out of order.

 

Whereupon, Judy Wasylycia-Leis appealed the decision of the Chair.

The question: "Shall the decision of the Chair be sustained?" was put and the decision was sustained, by a show of hands: YEAS: 8; NAYS: 5.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 8; NAYS: 5.

 

At 5:40 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
