The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 9:30 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D Centre Block, the Chair, Sue Barnes, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Sue Barnes, Maria Minna, Pierre Paquette, Gary Pillitteri, Judy Wasylycia-Leis and Bryon Wilfert.

 

Acting Members present: Monte Solberg for Charlie Penson, Larry Bagnell for Nick Discepola.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: June Dewetering, Principal; Blayne Haggart, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Building and Construction Trades Department: Robert Blakely, Director of Canadian Affairs. Forest Products Association of Canada: Paul Lansbergen, Director, Taxation and Business Issues. Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences: Doug Owram, President; Paul Ledwell, Executive Director. Canadian Council of Professional Engineers: Marie Lemay, Chief Executive Officer. Canadian Medical Association: Sunil Patel, President; William Tholl, Secretary General and CEO. Retirement Income Coalition: C.A. (Charlie) Pielsticker, Chair; Ian Markham, Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, Watson Wyatt Canada. Pursuant to Standing Order 83(1), the Committee resumed its pre-budget consultations.
 

Panel I: Doug Owran, Robert Blakely, Kirk Howard and Charles Pielsticker made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 11:00 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:05 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Panel II: Dr. Simon Hanmer, Paul Lansbergen, Sunil Paten and Marie Lemay made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 12:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
