Meeting No. 8

Wednesday, November 6, 2002

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met in camera at 3:40 p.m. this day, in Room 208, West Block, the Vice-chair, The Hon. Diane Marleau, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Stéphane Bergeron, Aileen Carroll, Bill Casey, The Hon. Art Eggleton, Mark Eyking, John Harvard, Marlene Jennings, Francine Lalonde, The Hon. Diane Marleau, Keith Martin, Pat O'Brien.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: James Lee and Gerald Schmitz, Research Officers.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on North American Integration and Canada's Role in the Light of New Security Challenges (See Minutes of Proceedings of October 28, 2002, Meeting No. 2).

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

The Committee discussed its future business.

It was agreed, --That the Committee host a delegation of Australian parliamentarians for a lunch on Monday, November 18, 2002.

It was agreed, --That Bill S-2, An Act to implement an agreement, conventions and protocols concluded between Canada and Kuwait, Mongolia, the United Arab Emirates, Moldova, Norway, Belgium and Italy for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion and to amend the enacted text of three tax treaties, referred to the Committee on November 1st, 2002, be considered and disposed of on Thursday, November 19, 2002.

At 5:41 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
