Meeting No. 31

Thursday, April 10, 2003

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 9:09 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Bernard Patry, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Stéphane Bergeron, Murray Calder, Aileen Carroll, Stockwell Day, André Harvey, Francine Lalonde, Hon. Diane Marleau, Keith Martin, Alexa McDonough, Deepak Obhrai, Bernard Patry, Karen Redman.

Acting Member present: Karen Kraft Sloan for Hon. Art Eggleton.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: James Lee and Gerald Schmitz, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the University of Western Ontario: Salim Mansur, Professor of Political Science.  As Individual: Reid Morden, President, Reid Morden and Associates. From the University of British Columbia: Andrew Mack, Director, Human Security Centre.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of a Dialogue on Foreign Policy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs (See Minutes of Proceedings of Thursday, February 11, 2003, Meeting No. 17).

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 10:30 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:08 a.m., the sitting was resumed.

At 11:00 a.m., by unanimous consent the Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

The Committee discussed its future business. 

It was agreed, — That, the Committee considers issues relating to the 5th Ministerial Meeting of the World Trade Organization and hold a meeting with representative witnesses from civil society organizations.

At 11:22 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
