Tuesday, February 11, 2003

The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 6:07 p.m. this day, in Winnipeg at the Radisson Suites Hotel Winnipeg Airport in Ballroom ABC, the Chair, Joe Fontana, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Joe Fontana, Lynne Yelich.

Acting Member present:  Andrew Telegdi for David Price.

Other Member present:  Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

In attendance:  From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament:  Benjamin Dolin, Researcher.

Witnesses: Panel I: From the Singh Sabba of Winnipeg: Ajit Deol, Member and Past President. From the Thunder Bay Multicultural Association: Cathy Woodbeck, Program Director. From the University of Manitoba: Dr. Vedanand, Transcultural Management. Panel II: From the Employment Projects of Winnipeg: Magaly Diaz, Acting Executive Director; Jason Fuerst, Employer Liaison. From the International Centre/Citizenship Council: Fatima Soares. From the Manitoba Refugee Sponsors: Tom Denton, Co-chair. From the North End Sponsorship Team: Jim Mair; Howard R. Engel, Board Member. From the As Individual: Bob Gabuna.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Friday, November 8, 2002, the Committee resumed debate on Clause 2 consideration of Bill C-18, An Act respecting Canadian citizenship (See Minutes of Proceedings, Thursday, November 21, 2002, Meeting No. 6).

At 8:00 p.m. the sitting was suspended.

At 8:12 p.m. the sitting resumed.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on Settlement and Integration Programs (see Minutes of Proceedings, Monday, February 10, 2003, Meeting No 20).

Panel II: - The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 10:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned until Wednesday February 12, 2003.
