The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 3:40 p.m. this day, in Room 362 East Block, the Chair, Paul Steckle, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Gérard Binet, Claude Duplain, Mark Eyking, Howard Hilstrom, Louis Plamondon, Gerry Ritz, Paul Steckle and Rose-Marie Ur.

 

Acting Members present: Murray Calder for Larry McCormick and Rodger Cuzner for Rick Laliberte.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Principal.

 

Witnesses: Chicken Farmers of Canada: Mike Dungate, General Manager; David Fuller, Chairman. Canadian Poultry and Egg Processors Council: Robin Horel, President; Tony Tavares, Chairman.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of the current World Trade Organization negotiations on agriculture.
 

Tony Tavares and David Fuller made opening statements, and with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

On motion of Rose-Marie Ur, it was agreed, — That the PMRA make available a progress report on its activities, prior to its appearance before the Standing Committee every six months .

 
- That the progress report highlight various indicators such as the number of new pesticides approved, the number of old pesticides re-evaluated, the number of minor use pesticides approved, the number of temporary and emergency registrations, and other information pertaining to Agency’s operations, including cost recovery initiates and staffing requirements; and
 
- That the report be reviewed in consultation with the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development.
 

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

 

At 5:01 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
