The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 11:05 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Paul Steckle, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Garry Breitkreuz, Mark Eyking, Howard Hilstrom, Rick Laliberte, John Maloney, Louis Plamondon, Bob Speller, Paul Steckle and Rose-Marie Ur.

Acting Member present: Rick Casson for David L. Anderson.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, analyst.

Witnesses: From the Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food: Mark Corey, Assistant Deputy Minister, Market and Industry Services Branch; Michael Keenan, Director General, Research and Analysis Directorate; Steve Verheul, Chief Agriculture Trade Negotiator, International Trade Policy Directorate; Phillip G. Douglas, Deputy Director, Canada U.S. Trade Policy, International Trade Policy Directorate.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to the consideration of the U.S. Farm Security and Rural Investment Act of 2002 (U.S. Farm Bill).

Mark Corey, Michael Keenan and Steve Verheul made opening statements and, with Phillip G. Douglas, answered questions.

At 1:02 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
