The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs, Northern Development and Natural Resources met at 3:16 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Raymond Bonin, presiding.

Member of the Committee present: Gérard Binet, Raymond Bonin, Stan Dromisky, Charles Hubbard, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Yvan Loubier, Anita Neville, Maurice Vellacott.

Acting Member present: Pauline Picard for Serge Cardin.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Tonina Simeone, Analyst.

Witnesses: From the Association of Iroquois and Allied Indians: Grand Chief Chris McCormick. From Saddle Lake First Nation: Eric J. Large, Councillor. As an Individual: Ken MacLeod, Former Inspector of Municipalities, B.C. Ministry of Municipal Affairs. From York University: Fred Lazar, Economist, Schulich School of Business. Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Thursday, February 20, 2003, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-19, An Act to provide for real property taxation powers of first nations, to create a First Nations Tax Commission, First Nations Financial Management Board, First Nations Finance Authority and First Nations Statistical Institute and to make consequential amendments to other Acts (See Minutes of Proceedings, Monday, June 9, 2003, Meeting No. 80).

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 5:01 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 6:34 p.m., the sitting resumed.

At 8:41 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
